Jan A. Gruen is owner of newly established Gruen Law providing an array of legal services to home builders from business formation to risk management and litigation support. She has more than 23 years of litigation experience representing home builders, land owners and businesses in real estate and in insurance-related matters. As such she represents and serves as a legal advisor to home builder clients and business clients on day-to-day risk management, business and insurance matters, as well as more complex issues such as large-scale construction defect claims, contractual issues, subcontractor liability, loss recovery, warranty related matters and dispute resolution prior to the commencement of litigation. She is experienced in risk management and all forms of dispute resolution, including Calderon Act proceedings, SB 800, mediation, arbitration and civil trial work.

Ms. Gruen has been recognized by her peers as a California Super Lawyer for the last 7 years and most recently received recognition once again as one of the top 50 female attorneys in Northern California. She was recognized as a “2008 Woman of Distinction” by the East Bay Business Times and received the 2007 and 2009 Chairman’s Award for her dedication and service to the Homebuilders Association of Northern California.

Ms. Gruen currently sits on the HBANC Regional Board and the Executive Committee of the Board as Vice Chairperson of Associates. Enjoying her ninth consecutive year of service, she continues to sit on the Women’s Council local board as co-chair of the Scholarship Committee, Advisor to the current President, and liaison to the California Homebuilding Foundation, having served as President of the Women’s Council in 2007. As Community Outreach Chairperson she established the annual Food & Gift Drive, now in its 9th year, to support existing HomeAid Shelters. She also helped established a $50,000 endowment between the HBANC Women’s Council and CHF in the furtherance of education in the homebuilding industry. She continues to sit on the board of Homeaid. Finally she sits on the state CBIA Women’s Council Board, for her fifth year, as Vice President and President Elect 2011, and is a member of CBIA’s Risk Management and Member Services Subcommittees.
